Shortcut Crumb Cake

A friend of mine shared this recipe with me and all I can say is wow! I don't think I've ever made a crumb cake before and it was easy and delicious! The original recipes is from Pinterest and is linked below.


SHORTCUT CRUMB CAKE


Ingredients

  • 1 Betty Crocker Yellow Cake box mix prepared according to box directions (and also add 1 teaspoon vanilla)


  • 1 lb. salted butter

  • 4 ½ cups flour

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 2 Tablespoons cinnamon

(Note: I think the crumb topping above can be cut In half for one cake but most people love the crumb topping really thick so that's your choice!)


Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake as package directs and add vanilla.

  2. Bake it in a 9x13 pan lined with nonstick foil for 20 minutes at 350.

  3. Electric mix butter, flour, sugar and cinnamon to make crumbs.

  4. Optional: Add preserves, Nutella, etc. (see fillings below)

  5. Carefully sprinkle all over the cake and return to the oven for an additional 20 minutes.

  6. Let cool completely before cutting.

  7. Top with powdered sugar and serve!




Variations:

Use chocolate cake


Fillings:

Smucker’s Seedless Raspberry Jam (put in a bowl and mix until it's really smooth)

Peanut Butter Chocolate, with PB cups or Reese’s pieces

Nutella

Blueberry

Caramel Pecan

Oreos (can be crumbled and added to the cake mix)

Lemon Curd

Lemon Pie Filling

The possibilities are endless!
